With an extensive background in brick-and-mortar, virtual, and blended classrooms, as well as a masters degree in Instructional Technology, I possess an intimate understanding of good pedagogy, learning theories, and the instructional process. Along with solid educational theory, good designers must also employ a "toolbox" of strategies, applications, and technologies when creating learning activities. This page highlights some of my background, knowledge, skills, and abilities in instructional design.
Good instructional designers need solid authoring tools to create impressive courses and learning content. I have experience with a number of authoring platforms for designing instructional content, including Adobe Captivate, Articulate Rise, and Genially.
I have always enjoyed the painstaking process of audio-video creation. From making mixtapes as a youth, to creating slideshows and video productions as an adult, I have always appreciated the way that multimedia tells a story and informs. I have experience with a number of audio-video production tools, including, but not limited to:
Adobe Audition
Adobe Express
Camtasia
Canva
iMovie
While my skill level in web design is still at the novice stage, I have experience creating a few sites using a variety of building tools, including Google Sites, WordPress, and Dreamweaver. I am a fast learner and this is an area where I would welcome a chance to gain more experience.
I possess an intense dislike of instructional materials that are boring, basic, and ugly. It is my belief that learners are drawn to materials that are aesthetically pleasing- that these materials will actually help students learn by captivating their attention and interest.
When creating instructional materials, my tools of choice include Canva, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, and Microsoft PowerPoint.
The LMS, or learning management system, is the basic tool for online course design. I have experience building virtual elearning content in a number of learning management systems, including Canvas, Blackboard, and Moodle.
In addition to those highlighted above, there are numerous other tools in the ID toolkit. As a classroom teacher and Instructional Designer, I am always looking for new technology to aid instruction and learning.
Highlighted tools in this section include Delightex and Padlet.
